Cheryle Ann Smith

1952 — 2026
Obituary

Cheryle Ann Smith left this earthly plane on May 24, 2026. She was born in Hughes, Arkansas, on August 24, 1952, to Sam and Maylon Ashby. She grew up in Hughes and later married the love of her life, Dewayne Smith. Together they made their home in Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas, where they raised their two children.

Cheryle was a compassionate and kind soul who was loved by everyone who knew her. She was always just a phone call away whenever someone needed her. As the years went by and mobility became more difficult, her phone became her lifeline. She kept up with family and friends through daily scrolls on Facebook and faithfully played her games so she would not miss her free gifts. Cheryle loved receiving calls from friends and family each day, and those conversations always brought a smile to her face and gave her something to look forward to.

Cheryle also had a deep love for animals, especially her cat, Lil-Bit. Anyone who knew Cheryle knew Lil-Bit was her pride and joy, and often the boss in her eyes. No decision was made without taking Lil-Bit into consideration, and the family will proudly carry on that love in her absence.

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Dewayne Smith; her father, Sam Ashby; her mother, Maylon Ashby; her son, Jason Smith; and her brothers, John Ashby and Tommy Ashby.

She is survived by her son, Chris Smith; one grandson, Christopher Smith; and two granddaughters, Darian Brooke Smith and Zoe Grace Smith; one brother, Byron Ashby.

A memorial service will be held near Marion, Arkansas, with the date and time to be determined.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Willard Walker Hospice Home. They walked with us during the most sacred season of our lives, bringing dignity, comfort, and peace to our family. We also extend our deep thanks to Dr. Lombeida. The compassion, respect, and comfort shown to Cheryle brought peace during an incredibly difficult time. Words cannot express our gratitude for helping make this final journey one of grace and dignity.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Cheryle Smith to:
