Homer Jr was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, serving several terms as Elder, a member of the Lincoln Kiwanis Club where he served as President, a member of the Arkansas Propane Gas Association, Inc. serving as a member of the Board of Directors also serving two terms as President of the Boards of Directors. He was a receipient of the B.T. Harris Memorial Award for Excellence and Outstanding Archievement in the Propane Industry and a member of the State of Arkansas L.P. Gas Advisory Board. He was "Citizen of the Year" of Lincoln, Washington County, ARkansas in 1994. He served as Scoutmaster of Lincoln, Troop 78 Boy Scouts of America from 1958 - 1965 and a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Homer Jr. owned Summers Butane, Inc. from 1958 to 1996.
