Winslow 0. E. S. # 361
February 25, 1911, a preliminary meeting was held at Winslow to organize a chapter of the Order of Eastern Star as an affiliate of the F. A. M. Summit Lodge # 530.
The name Clyde Chapter was unanimously agreed upon, since Clyde Karnes and his half-brother George A. Winn had built the hall in which the meeting was held. Its second floor was dedicated for the Masonic Lodge already in existence. The
Masons had contributed funds toward the erection of the building and continued to pay rent for their occupancy. The Clyde Chapter name was a fitting tribute since Clyde Karnes, at 27, died a year after the building's completion.
Recorded in the 1911 "Proceedings of the Grand Chapter", it is determined that on April 1, the Worthy Grand Matron, Mrs. Nora Rushing, Deputy of the Sixth District, Mrs. Minnie Maxwell, the Clyde Chapter was formally instituted. According to Maxwell's report: "On April 1st, by special request on Clyde Chapter, I went to Winslow and assisted them in perfecting their organization." The charter was received in November of 1911.
Charter members listed were: Mrs. Etta (F. F.) Black (First Worthy Matron); Mrs. Christina Bogan, Mrs. Martha (C. A.) Brown, Mrs. Audie (J. M.) Crider, Miss Maude Guinn, Mrs. Rachel (Wm.) Guinn, Mrs. Scrilda (S. A.) Guinn, Mrs. Etta (W.
