he Chronicle, Shippensburg, PA, 15 July 1926:
Mrs. Caroline Olivia Rankin Miller, widow of John R. Miller, Carlisle attorney and historian, who died in 1921, died Thursday night. Mrs. Miller was born April 1, 1846, one of the 12 children of Dr. William Rankin and Caroline Olivia Nevin Rankin, in Shippensburg, where she married before moving to Carlisle. The deceased had two children, a surviving son, Hugh Rankin, of Carlisle, and a daughter, Caroline Olivia, deceased in infancy. One sister, Mrs. Anna R. Hays, of Pittsburg, survives. Mrs. Miller was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carlisle where she sang in the choir for many years. At one time an accomplished pianist, Mrs. Miller was always a lover of music and came from a family which had been many times distinguished for its contributions to theology, medicine and the arts. Funeral services were held Saturday evening, entombment taking place in the mausoleum at Westminster cemetery.
