Research Notes

According to the Job(e) Journal, Volume 3 (1980), Sally Ann Nelson was born 31 Mar 1784 in Shenandoah County, VA a daughter of John Nelson, Jr. and his wife, Bathsheba Hogan. She married in Barren County, KY on 27 Jan 1801 to "John Rankin, Sr. of North Carolina." They lived in Hamilton County, IL where she died on 7 May 1849. The source given in the Job(e) Journal is a "Rankin bible." According to Francis C. Gill, John was born 21 Jan 1775 in Tryon County, NC a son of Robert and Mary Witherow Rankin and died in Hamilton County on 25 Aug 1861.
