Research Notes
Served with both Gen. John B. Hood and Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Voted against Texas' secession, but joined Gen. Sibley's brigade. Also served with Terry's Texas Rangers. After the war, prospered as a private businessman. In 1886, proposed building a seawall in Galveston, but proposal failed. Four years later the city was destroyed by the great hurricane of 1900.
