COHEA, Gilbert - {Prairie Grove Globe) After reaching nearly his four score years, in an honorable and useful life, and while surrounded by his companion, his children and grand children, and a host of fiends and neighbors, Gilbert Cohea gave up the ghost, and his spirit took its flight to the paradise of God, on the 16th of April, 1901. Father Cohea had lived at the home where he died (about six miles north of Prairie Grove, Ark., something near 70 years, having moved to Washington county in the year 1831. He had lived a long and useful life-was a good citizen and neighbor-was a kind husband, a loving and affectionate father and died “in peace with all mankind,” and in the triumph of a “living faith,” having professed a hope in Christ when young. He left an affectionate companion who had struggled through the battles of life with him for about 57 years, raising 7 sons and 5 daughters, 9 of whom are yet living. After funeral services at the old homestead, by Rev. Ed. Freyschlag, he was “laid in the narrow tomb” at the old Rose grave yard near his home, there to await the resurrection morn, when God will bring him forth to meet the loved ones again where parting will come no more. Dear old mother, you may not live long but live in hope, exercise patience, for you will see him again. Dear children take father’s example and advice and live accordingly and you will see the dear old father “on the other shore.” [The Springdale News 5/3/1901] -- COHEA, Gib - (from Johnson! John Wyatt and Tom Roberts of Wedington were here last Friday. They came up to make statements for the heirs of the late Gib Cohea of Viney Grove. The Cohea heirs have instituted a claim for property losses during the civil war. Uncle Sam Cox of this place also testified in the matter. The government had an attorney here to hear the testimony, which was given before our hustling notary public, William Mayes.
