William Shumate

SHUMATE, William “Little Bill” – William Shumate was born about 1839 and was killed in June of 1864. He married Martha Elizabeth White, born September 11, 1848: died January 2, 1933, when she was about 15 years of age in 1863. She was a daughter of John S. White and Mary Ann Maloy. They had one daughter, Nancy Jane Shumate, who was but six weeks old when her father was killed in June, 1864 in Civil War fighting near Wesley, Arkansas, where he is buried.
