PARKS, John Hamilton, of Cincinnati, Arkansas, was born June 24, 1836 at Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky, the son of Walter Davis Parks of Virginia and Mary Park, daughter of J.H. Park. Subject was educated at Cane Hill, Arkansas, was census enumerator in Washington County in 1860, was a Democrat and a Presbyterian. He served with Company B, 34th Arkansas Infantry. On December 20, 1860, he married Kate Gibson, daughter of George and Barbara McPhail Gibson at Cincinnati, Arkansas. Thjeir children are: W.A. Parks of Summers, Arkansas; J.J. Parks, (deceased); W.D. Parks, husband of Julia Wright, Summers, Arkansas and Mrs. Lizzie D. Tunnell. [1911 Arkansas Confederate Census] ==== JOHN HAMILTON PARKS John H. Parks, often called, "Uncle John Parks," was born in Hopinsville, Kentucky, June 26, 1836. His father, Walter Davis Parks, born 1803, Virginia, brought his family to the Cincinnati area in 1849. He died shortly thereafter and was buried in "Old Union Cemetery," 1850. John H. Parks was the fourth child in a family of eleven children. He was 14 years of age and took on much responsibility when his father died. He was educated at "The Cane ~Hill College." He was census enumerator in Washington Co. Ark., 1860. He was a soldier in the Civil War, serving in Co. B, 34th Inf., Ark. He was a Democrat. He was converted and joined the "Cumberland Presbyterian Church," at a young age. Later he was ordained "ruling elder" and held that office through his entire life. He married Kate Gibson, September 20, 1860. To them was born four children, William Almer Parks, John James Parks, Walter Davis Parks, and Lizzie Dean Parks. All of these children were born and reared in this community. Most of this family is buried in "Old Union Cemetery." John H. Parks died January 26, 1917, a caring man noted for his many kind deeds, among them, his caring for "Old Union Cemetery." 6
