Janice Ann Rice Age 81, a resident of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2023 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. She was born June 1, 1942 in Guymon, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jared and Velma (Mulanix) Calvert. Janice attended elementary and Jr High School in Gage, Oklahoma before moving and finishing up at Prairie Grove High School. During her school years she was very active playing basketball, acting as catcher on the softball team, performing in choir and as a majorette within the school band. She also participated in Eastern Star and attended college before marrying her sweetheart, Marvin Rice. She worked for the Prairie Grove Telephone Company and eventually retired from Arkansas Western Gas Company after 20 plus years. She was a lifetime member of the Prairie Grove Methodist Church. She enjoyed volunteering at Life Ministries and was often busy crocheting blankets and pillows for her family. She loved to travel every chance she got with friends and family and always looked to find a new quaint store to shop for one of her many collections. She loved her family and was happiest when surrounded by her husband, her kids, and the grandkids who knew her as "Grams". She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Janna Rice Powell, one sister Janet Sue Hutchens, and one brother Jared "Max" Calvert. Survivors include her husband of 61 years Marvin Glenn Rice; son Marvin Vance Rice and his wife Tammy Ranae of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three brothers Ben Evans Calvert of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Thomas Dean Calvert of Rogers, Arkansas, and Timothy Glenn Calvert of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; five grandchildren Leann Renae Cook, Stephanie Jana Higby, Garrison Glenn Rice, Kassidy Fern Freeman, and Adrianne Michale Powell; eight great grandchildren Corey, Joseph, Olivia, Janna, Jonah, Ariyah, Magnolia, and Lucas; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 6:00-7:00 PM at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 15th, 2023, at Prairie Grove First United Methodist Church in Prairie Grove, Arkansas.
