CARNAHAN, Martha Jane BUCHANAN - Bentonville, Oct. 30.- Mrs. Peter Carnahan, one of Benton county's pioneer residents and best beloved women, died this morning at the family home here after a brief illness. Her husband, Rev. Peter Carnahan, retired Presbyterian minister, is prostrated as a result of his wife's death. Mrs. Carnahan was born September 27, I841 at Cane Hill, Ark., the birthplace also of her husband. She was Martha Jane Buchanan, daughter of Rev. John Buchanan, pioneer Presbyterian minister in Northwest Arkansas. June 19, 1862 she became the bride of M r. Carnahan. Seven children were born of the union, six sons and one daughter, of whom six survive: Edgar and Wilford Carnahan of Bentonville; J.H. and Earl Carnahan of Fort Smith; H.P. Carnahan of Joplin, Mo. and Mrs. D.C. Lewis of Portland, Ore. She leaves also three grandchildren, J.H. Carnahan, Jr. of Fort Smith, Dixie Lewis of Portland, Ore. and Cyril Lewis of Australia. The services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the home and interment in the Bentonville cemetery. [Rogers Democrat 11/2/1922] [Prairie Grove Herald 11/2/1922}
