Research Notes

Drowned with John ("Jeb" or "Eb") Ezell. According to L.D. Ezell (to Richard Dale Ezell, 24 April 2004), his grandfather Richard Fred Ezell said the two boys were cousins. This would support the conclusion that this "R E Cowan" buried at Mountain View with "J E Ezell" was Joseph Skiles son, making them first cousins. Some Cowan genealogy charts, however, have Joseph's son "Robert" born in 1875. No conclusive evidence has been found that the "R E" that drowned was Joseph's son.
