John Smith Edmiston, my grandfather, was born March 3, 1841 in Washington County and died April of 1915. He is buried in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. He married Emily E. A. West in 1873, and she died in 1884. She is also buried in Prairie Grove. John Smith Edmiston later married Nina Davis Dunlap. She was born in 1860, died in 1950 and is buried in Prairie Grove. The children of John Smith Edmiston and Emily E. A. West were James Thomas Edmiston, born March 22, 1875 and died February, 1932. He was married to Alice Gannaway in November of 1905. Two daughters were born to them: Mamie and Jewell. Mamie Edmiston was born September, 1906 at Rhea, Washington County. Jewell was born at Rhea, Washington County in March of 1909. Mamie Edmiston married Delford Earnest Rieff, born October, 1909. They have one son, James Clinton Rieff born December 26, 1939. He married Susan Moore of Springdale, born December 7, 1941. They have two daughters, Leslie Lynn and Barbara Leigh. Jewell Edmiston married Ralph Wilson in 1938. They live in Hulbert, Oklahoma. They have one daughter, Sue Ann Wilson, born March, 1939. She married Jim Brixey of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and they have two sons, James Timothy and Thomas Ray. They also have one daughter, Vanessa. There are many other Edmiston's in Washington County. All who spell their names Edmiston are related. Another son of John Smith Edmiston was Samuel Ran.kin, who married Edna Mayfield and they have one son, S. R. Edmiston. He married Jimmie Nichols,.and they have four children: Barbara, Sybil, Phillip and Sammie, Jr. They all live in Memphis, Tennessee. John Smith Edmiston had two daughters by Emily E. A. West. They were Anne Lee, born in Washington County in 1879. She married Harry Williams and went to Virginia to live. They had one son, Ralph Williams, who married Mary. They have two children, George Williams and Mary Williams. Ralph Williams presently lives in New York. Another daughter of John Smith Edmiston was La Una born in 1883. She married Frank Allen, and they had four children. They were Delmas Allen, deceased, Vera Allen, married to Jim Ford in 1934 with two daughters, Margaret and Mary, who are both married; Lucille Allen, married to William Cabaness, with no children; Geraldine Allen, married to Marion Hill, both deceased, with no children. John Smith Edmiston married Nina Davis Dunlap after the death of his first wife. They had two sons, Watson Irvin who married Pearl Wilson. They had one daughter, Maureen, who married Lester Cline. They have two children, Leslie and Lance. John Davis Edmiston, born in 1891 lived in Washington County and died in 1956. He married Elizabeth Patterson in 1915. They had two children. Mary Elizabeth, born in 1917 and married to Edward Mclheren. They have one daughter, Melissa. John Davis, Jr. (called Jack) married Helen Tidwell. They have two children, John Davis and Joan Hadley.
