Hill, Maury Huland “M. H. Hill passed away at a Kansas City hospital this morning at 4 o'clock. Funeral arrangements have not been made as we go to press.” Maury Huland Hill was born May 9, 1876, in Covington, Tennessee, and passed away at 1 a.m. on June 2, 1932, at Wesley Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Miss Lyna E. Murphy on November 27, 1901, in Brighton, Tennessee. They had five children: Mrs. Martha Weaver, A. W., Florence, Blain, and Erin-all of Prairie Grove-who, along with his wife, survived him. He also had one grandchild, Betty Jane Weaver, and two brothers, J. A. Hill of Covington and S. B. Hill of Gates. Mr. Hill moved to Arkansas in 1905 and became an active member of the Prairie Grove community, serving two terms as mayor. He was originally a member and elder of the Presbyterian church, later joining the Methodist church in Viney Grove in 1912 and eventually transferring his membership to the Prairie Grove Methodist church. He was a devoted teacher and member of the Church Helpers and Earnest Workers classes. His funeral service was held Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Methodist church, with Rev. E. E. Stevenson officiating, assisted by Rev. E. M. Freyschlag and Rev. T. P. Harrison. Hymns included “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” and “Shall We Gather at the River.” Burial took place in Prairie Grove Cemetery, with the Masonic lodge in charge.
