William Roy Moorman
Age 84, a resident of Lincoln, Arkansas, passed from this life Friday, March 15, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. He was born September 9, 1939 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the son of Walter Ervin and Susanna Madura (Galbraith) Moorman.
Roy was the youngest of 8 kids. When Roy was 13, he drove his parents from South Carolina to Arkansas and New Mexico to visit family.
Roy served in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960. He enlisted at the age of sixteen and celebrated his seventeenth birthday in Okinawa, Japan. He received an Accommodation Medal for saving planes from a Typhoon.
Roy served his community in numerous ways. He served on the Lincoln City Council, Lincoln Jaycees, Lincoln Riding Club, and was a charter member of the VFW #4675.
Roy worked for the Highway Department, Roy Jays Deep Rock Station, and Standard Register. He was a pressman at Standard Register and retired after 35 years. After he retired, he enjoyed farming and attending his grandchildren’s events.
Roy had a passion for youth sports. He loved coaching city league baseball to give local youth more opportunities to participate. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, choir, band, and FFA shows.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Hattie Lee Strahan and Joyce Ester Moorman, and five brothers James Robert Moorman, Lynn Baxter Moorman, Charles Agustus Moorman, Walter Ezekiel "Bud" Moorman, and John Allen Moorman.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Elizabeth Diane Clark Moorman; one daughter Joye Elizabeth Jones and her husband Keith of Farmington, Arkansas; two sons Paul Baxter Moorman and wife Mandy of Newton, North Carolina, and Jason Roy Moorman and his wife Julie of Cincinnati, Arkansas; eight grandchildren Alyssa Jones, Tyler Ryan and wife Leah, Jared Ryan, Zachary Moorman, Katelyn Moorman, Breyden Moorman, Sydney Moorman and Jacob Moorman; four great grandchildren Mikayla, Lucy, Cooper, and William; two nephews Robert Moorman and Dean Moorman; one niece Donna Strahan Miller; numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 20, 2024, 6:00-8:00 PM at Luginbuel Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, March 21st, 2024, at Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Burial will be in the Wedington Cemetery,
