John H. Kirk Confederate soldier John H. Kirk enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as Q_ M. Sgt. from September 12 to October 31, 1861, with the 24th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry. He was discharged on November 16, 1861, at the age of 37 and according to records with pay as a private to the time of discharge. John Kirk and Nancy Plumlee Kirk moved from Jackson, Tennessee, to Summers, Arkansas, on December 2, 1875, where he purchased land from Calvin Williams. The four Kirk brothers were Stephen S., Dennis Carrol, George and John H., Stephen and John were in the Civil War, and George also. Stephen and George were twins, and John H. Kirk is great-grandfather to Clara Risley. homesteaded land in Summers, Arkansas, about September 6, 1886. He came from Jackson County, Tennessee, and John also came to Arkansas from Tennessee. John Kirk came first and then Dennis Carrol Kirk, about 11 years after. John H. Kirk was a farmer at Summers, Arkansas. His children are: Albert Logan Kirk (born June 11, 1860; died June 22, 1930) married Martha Jane Armstrong (born July 4, 1868; died September 1, 1941) on July 13, 1884; Geneva Kirk (born December 4, 1861; died March 27, 1904) married Ambrose H. Little (born December 18, 1859; died June 10, 1909) of Washington County, Arkansas, on November 24, 1881. (Ambrose H. Little married second wife Maggie Longwith, born December 21, 1868; died March 10, 1964) on March 26, 1905. Alvesta Kirk (born December 10, 1863; died June 24, 1927) married (first) Charles Ewen Maxwell (born Octoher 6, 1864; died May 24, 1935) on October 3, 1885, married (second) Mr. Harred (?); Rosco H. Kirk (born November 10, 1865; died August, 1866); Sidney Preston Kirk (born August 12, 1867; died June 11, 1948) married Annie Elizabeth Venable (born December 31, 1870; died March 10, 1946) on July 12, 1891. City Bell Kirk (born April IO, 1870; died January 20, 1902) married J. W. McGee (born 1850) on June 14, 1900. Mary Floretta Kirk (born April 6, 1872; died August 2, 1938) married Preston Hickerson Darke (born August 26, 1879; died January 18, 1922) on April 7, 1901. John Carroll Kirk (born July 3, 1874; died May 16, 1945) married Etta Myrtle Elms (born February 13, 1879; died June 8, 1963) on April 28, 1896. Buena Kirk (born January 12, 1877; died September 1, 1879). Erie T. Kirk (born August 25, 1879; died March 22, 1958) married John P. Gibson (born December 17, 1873; died January 2, 1954) on October 4, 1905; Robert E. Lee Kirk (born Marh 12, 1882; died September 1, 1960) married Nancy Angeline Little (born November 19, 1883; died May 11, 1965) on April 25, 1915. John H. Kirk (born January 6, 1834; died January 26, 1900) and Nancy Jane Plumlee (born July 23, 1838; died March 26, 1917) were married September 1, 1859. They were married by the Reverend Jesse Glass at the home of Denton Plumlee in Tennessee. All of their children were born in Jackson County, Tennessee. John H. Kirk had plans to go to Texas, but stopped in Arkansas, at Summers, and looked around. He camped on the creek for several days and liked the place, and the family liked the place, too. Some of the family were sick, so they stopped. He traded his wagon and team for a farm at Summers. His father was George M. Kirk, born about 1812. He married Rachel Wilson about 1831. She was born in 1813. These were Clara Snodgrass Risley's great-great-grandparents. Their children were: Marian Kirk (born 1832); John H. Kirk (born January 6, 1834; died January 26, 1900) married Nancy Jane Plumlee (born July 23, 1838; March 26, 1917) on September 1, 1859; Margaret Kirk (born 1836); Pharaby Kirk (born 1839); George M. Kirk (born 1842); Stephen S. Kirk (born 1842); Dicy A. Kirk (born 1844); Atline F. Kirk (born 1847); Rachel D. Kirk (born 1849); Dennis Carrol Kirk (born July 10, 1850; died March 7, 1890) married Nancy Catherine Moore (born March 26, 1855 in Illinois; died May 3, 1937) about 1873. Denton Plumlee, born in Tennessee in 1803, was Nancy Kirk's father. He died in 1874. Denton was Clara's great-greatgrandfather. In 1822 he married Nancy Jane Johnson (born 1806 in Tennessee; died 1885). Their children were: William Plumlee (born May 21, 1824; died June 27, 1904) married Lavona Kendall (born October 16, 1824; died November 19, 1893); Samuel (Black Sam) Plumlee (born 1825); George H. Plumlee (born 1826) son of Mary (Polly) Kirk; John Plumlee (born 1833); Nancy Plumlee (born July 23, 1838; died March 26, 1917) married John H. Kirk (born January 6, 1834; died January 26, 1900) on September 1, 1859; Francis (Frank) Plumlee (born 1839); Elizabeth Plumlee (born 1841) married Ed Fraley; Andrew Jackson Plumlee (born June 27, 1845; died October 13, 1931) married Agnes D. Pennington (born March 6, 1852, died January 27, 1946); Merelda Plumlee (born 1847) married William Pennington (born 1848,??). Denton Plumlee's father was born John Plumlee (born 1767); his mother was Elizabeth (Neill) Plumlee (born 1763). John Plumlee's father was William Plumlee and his mother was Phebe (Denton) Plumlee. (This information was out of the Plumlee book by Robert D. Plumlee, Sr. ) Elizabeth (Neill) Plumlee's father and mother were William and Sarah (Clinton) Neill. The children of John and Elizabeth Plumlee were: William Plumlee (born 1792; died 1870); Archibald Plumlee (born 1794; died March 21, 1879) Ruth Odle married December 25, 1817; Denton Plumlee (born 1803; died 1874) married Nancy Johnson (born 1806; died 1885); Clinton Plumlee (1806 in Tennessee) married Polly Cherry; Stephen Plumlee (born 1809 in Tennessee) married Virginia (Jane) Johnson; Kendall Plumlee (born 1810 in Tennessee) married Mariah Johnson.
