Vol Melven Cheatham

Vol Melven Cheatham was born December 29, 1923 in Lincoln, Arkansas to Earl and Della Cheatham. He left us to join our Heavenly Father at 9:20 am on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at the age of 90. He passed away peacefully at his home in Collinsville, OK from an abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Vol served in WWII as a Flight Engineer Gunner for the US Air Force (US Army Air Corps) from June 1, 1943 to October 20, 1945. During his service, he earned the rank of Tech Sergeant and fought in the following battles: Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He received the following decorations, for his military service: Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with two bronze clusters, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with three bronze battle stars.
Vol retired from the Washington County Highway Department after working for 20 years (1965 to 1985) as a road grader operator. After retirement, he moved to Collinsville, OK in order to be closer to his two daughters.
He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters (Ida Mae Choate, Helen Fritch, Frances Baer, Mary Cheatham, and Louetta Cheatham) and two brothers (Clyde and Elven Cheatham).
He is survived by: Two daughters: Voline Campbell and husband Bill of Claremore, OK; and Judy Rose of Collinsville, OK. Four grandchildren: Debbie Woodworth and husband Rex of Ramona, OK; Cindy Thompson and husband Gary of Owasso, OK; Jeff Rose and wife Paula of Sperry, OK; and Shannon Rose of Phoenix, AZ. Five great-grandchildren: Kristi Woodworth, Lyndsey Woodworth, Braden Thompson, Hunter Rose, and Dakota Rose. Two brothers: J. F. and Jackie Cheatham, both of Lincoln, AR. Two sisters: Pauline Batson and Flossie Bequette, both of Lincoln, AR. Plus, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Luginbuel Funeral Home in Prairie Grove, AR with burial following at Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln, AR.
