William Scott Rankin

Col. William Scott Rankin enlisted in Company M of the 21st NC Regiment "Guilford Dixie Boys" and was elected First Lieutenant on June 8, 1861. He was promoted to Captain on February 1, 1862. ON his promotion to Major on August 28, 1862, he was assigned to the Field & Staff of this Regiment. William was promoted ot the rank of "Lieutenant Colonel on March 12, 1863. He was wounded in the right thigh and captured at Gettysburg in early July 1863. He was confined at Various Federal hospitals then transferred to Johnson's Island, OH where he arrived on September 29, 1863. Williams was paroled and transferred to Cox "Wharf, James River Virginia where he was received on March 22, 1865 for exchange. His wife was the daughter of Judge John McClintock Dick.
William lived in Greensboro, NC and had no children. Mildred filed her will in Guilford County, NC in June 1899.
