Notes

The following account taken from an Iowa City, (Iowa) newspaper concerning the death of William Rankin, a former resident of Hennessey, received by a friend of the family here, will be of interest to his many old friends in Hennessey where he resided until about seven years ago.

Wm. Rankin died at the hospital in Iowa City at 2 p.m. Saturday, aged 51 years 7 months and [] days. He came here last fall from Oklahoma with his family and lived on Gilbert Lowe's old place east of town. He is a brother-in-law of Gilbert Lowe and is survived by a wife and several children, the two youngest being at home.

He is a tinner and worked for Harry White awhile last winter and later worked at the shock loader factory. Two weeks previous to his death he went to Iowa City for an operation which was not successful. The following Saturday he underwent another operation and death resulted.

William Moody Rankin was born Dec 29, 1862 at London, Madison Co., Ohio. On Sept. 20, 1888 he was married to Miss Carrie Wilson. To this union were born seven children, two daughters and five sons, two sons having preceding him into the other world. Besides the wife and five children, he leaves his mother, one brother, two sisters, and three half brothers with many other relatives. He was taken into the membership of the Church of Christ at Covington, Okla., eighteen years ago this September and has been a faithful and consistent member ever since.

Mr. Rankin was a member of the W. O. W. lodge at Gotebo, Okla., and carried $2000 life insurance in that order. The members of the Brighton camp met at their hall and attended the funeral in a body.

The remains were shipped to Brighton Sunday and the funeral was held Tuesday morning following his death at the home conducted by Rev. John Brown of Batavia with burial in the Brighton Hill Crest Cemetery.

[From the above, this would appear to be a cenotaph]

{On the other hand, the obit for his wife in 1940 states that she was buried in the Hennessey Cemetery "beside her husband who died in 1914"]
