According to some sources, David's father, David Rankin Sr., married his mother Jennett McCormick in 1718 in Raphoe Parish, Country Antrim, Northern Ireland. (Smoke)

David and William ,his brother rec'd grant #703 for 770 acres in 1756. This was a grant from Lord Fairfax.
In 1769 moved into what is now Washington Co., Pennsylvania. They remained there through the Rev. War with many of the Rankins being involved with the Patriotic Forces, mostly in the Rangers. In 1790 David Rankin II, his wife and most of his children and their families moved to Harrison Co. ,KY near Cynthiana, where they bought land and made their homes. David died there in 1795.
