Upon the death of her husband, returned to her father's home, Thomas Marshall, in Cross Creek but she died in Fort Scott, Kansas while visiting her sister Rose McIlvaine.

Mrs. Hadessa M. Rankin of Hickory died Monday morning, August 13, 1917, at 9:30 o'clock, while visiting her sister, Mrs. Rose McIlvaine, at Fort Scott, Kansas. She had been a sufferer for many months from heart trouble.

Mrs. Rankin was born January 16, 1839, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Campbell Marshall and a member of one of the pioneer families of the Hickory section. She was married on March 3, 1864, to John Milton Rankin, Dr.

Stockton of Cross Creek Presbyterian Church performing the ceremony. She and Mr. Rankin resided for several years in Kentucky, where on June 26, 1873, he died. Mr. Rankin for the last few years had made her home at Hickory with her children. She had been absent in the West for about a

month, visiting.

Mrs. Rankin leaves the following children:

John Rankin of Akron, OH

Mrs. Isabel Hornbake of Hickory, PA (Mary Sibella?)

Mrs. Dessie McElroy of Ashtabula, OH

William Milton Rankin of Wyoming.

She also leaves one sister, Mrs. McIlvaine,at whose home she died. The body was brought to Hickory on Wednesday and funeral services were held at the late home in the afternoon in charge of the Rev. A. F. Alexander of

Mt. Prospect Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Rankin's pastor. Interment was in the Mt. Prospect cemetery.
