Notes

MOORE, Alta Zara ELMES – Mrs. Alta Moore Dead – The many friends here will regret to learn of the death of Mrs. Alta Moore at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ossie Moore, at Wagoner, Oklahoma, March 20th. Mrs. Moore was the widow of James Moore who died many years ago. Her maiden name was Alta Elm and she was past ninety years of age.

Aunt Alta, or Grandma Moore as she was affectionately called by everyone who knew her, has made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. And Mrs. Ossie Moore, since her husband’s death, and for a number of years lived in Prairie Grove. Mrs. Moore was born near Summers this county.

All these years she has lived a consecrated life, living every day as though it was the last. Her remains were buried at Hulbert, Oklahoma, Tuesday, March 21st. [Prairie Grove Herald 3/30/1922]

Obituary – Mrs. Alta Moore – Mrs. Alta Moore, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Oscar D. Moore at Wagoner, Oklahoma, March 20th, 1922, from infirmities of old age.

The deceased was born near Sparty, White County, Tennessee, May 2, 1830 and was a daughter of John and Betsy Elmes.

In June 1859, she was married to James Moore, to this union were born three children, two of whom are living. The daughters living are Mrs. G.O.D. Moore, Wagoner, Oklahoma and Mrs. Henry Roberts, Lincoln, Arkansas. She was a step-mother to six children, and they all loved her devotedly and said no mother could have done more for them than she did.

Mrs. Moore came to Arkansas with her parents when a small girl and was converted in early childhood, and joined the Methodist Protestant church during Rev. Boids ministry. She lived a consecrated Christian for 73 years. Had “Aunt Alta” lived until May 2, she would have been 92 years old.

During her last illness she was always cheerful and full of faith of something better beyond, and spoke often to her loved ones, of the joy and peace that faith brought to her and she told them to always live for love and by love, for love was the greatest thing spoken of in the Bible. Her life went out like the closing of a fragrant flower, leaving its perfume in the pathway of others. She sleeps __ but her animated spirit sings and shines in the city of our God.

She will be greatly missed in her home, in her community and in her church. She was laid to rest March 21, near Hulbert, Oklahoma. – Relative [Prairie Grove Herald 4/6/1922]
