Bentonvile, Benton County, Arkansas
David, born in Bentonville, Benton County, Arkansas on August 11, 1882, was the second of 10 children born to parents James Nathaniel Boyd (from Tennessee) and Sarah Ann Edwards (from North Carolina). He was the eldest son born to this family. His father was a very religious and stern man who David had a falling out with presumably before he left Arkansas and headed west. On his way, David met and married Martha “Pearl” Spencer, daughter of Samuel and Martha (Lowery) Spencer on December 18, 1903 in Winfield, Cowley County, Kansas. By 1910, David and Pearl were living in Lincoln County, Idaho with 3 children and David’s brother, Martin Calvin Boyd. By 1920, they had settled in Falls City, Jerome County, Idaho. The 1920 census lists 7 of David and Pearl’s 9 children as well as his uncle William A. Boyd as members of the household. David always had horses around on his homestead in Jerome, Idaho. He past down his love of the animal to his children before he died suddenly on December 27, 1923 from a ruptured appendix at the young age of 41. His son Johnie, my grandfather, was only six years old at the time of his father’s death and so very few details about David’s life have been past down to his descendants.
David and Pearl’s children were:
Edgar Cecil Boyd b. 8 Mar 1907
Clifford Elbert Boyd b. 28 AUG 1908
James Ernest Boyd b. 1 MAR 1910
Horace Earl Boyd b. 3 NOV 1912
