Notes

Francine Dobbins Boyd was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, March 15, 2018 after a very short battle with stage four colon cancer. Francine was born on May 25, 1937 in Zavala, Texas to Charles Alvin Dobbins and Frances Lowe Dobbins.

Francine is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Bryan J. Boyd, her children Valerie Covey and husband Mark of Georgetown, TX, Denise Ward and husband Ken of Round Rock, TX, and Brad Boyd and wife Nan of Lytle, TX. “Nanny” also leaves behind 7 grandchildren: Matt Covey, MD and wife Sarah, Zachary Covey, Josh Covey, Emily Ward, Natalie Ward and Kasen Boyd. Francine is also survived by her brother Charles Dobbins and wife Prissy of Kerrville, brother Larry Dobbins and wife LaRue of Pleasanton, and sister Kay Bradham of Uvalde, and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Francine grew up in Pleasanton and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1955 where she was a member of the National Honor Society, band, a majorette and was voted Football Sweetheart and Most Popular her senior year. She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College (Texas State University) in San Marcos for a year. Francine met Bryan, who grew up in Three Rivers, TX, after he began working as a pharmacist in the same pharmacy started by Francine’s father. They began dating just before Bryan was drafted and served in the Army stationed in Korea. They celebrated their 59th Anniversary on January 10, 2018. Francine had an active role at Boyd’s Pharmacy and managed Boyd’s Furniture Store for many years.

Francine was passionate about her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her family, her country and her beloved Texas. She led by example living a Godly life and raised her children to personally know the Lord. She was the care giver for her husband for most of the last decade and never grew weary helping him. She was a devoted and supportive mother and grandmother attending as many sporting events, dance recitals and school programs as possible. She could often be seen and heard from the stands as she supported her child’s or grandchild’s team. She loved to dance and loved country music, especially by George Strait. She never met a stranger and loved those she met unconditionally.

A devout Christian with a servant’s heart, Francine was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Pleasanton. After selling Boyd’s Pharmacy in 1987, Francine worked for the FBC Child Development Center as she loved children, ultimately serving on the Board of Directors of the CDC until her death. She also served many years teaching in children’s Sunday school classes.

Francine loved to go camping and enjoyed many opportunities to see beautiful parts of the country in their RV, often making wonderful memories with their grandchildren. She and Bryan especially loved spending summers in South Fork, CO. They took many wonderful trips all over the world, including Spain, England, Hawaii, Acapulco, Mexico and three trips to Alaska. She also loved to crochet, was a member of Eastern Star and was a very faithful Facebook friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, Bryan and family would be most honored by a donation in her name to First Baptist Church Pleasanton Child Development Center. The Boyd Family welcomes visitors on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 5 to 7 at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Services will be Monday, March 19 at 10 am at First Baptist Church Pleasanton, Reverend Don Higginbotham officiating.
