A little over a year after Lizzie died, Land married 2) Eduth Lavada Boyd the 24th of June, 1909 in Cove City, Crawford County, Arkansas. Land and Vady had seven children. Their first three, Newman (born in 1910), Venice (born in 1912), and Leander, Jr. (born in 1914), were born near Chester in Crawford County, Arkansas. Lavada Boyd, my mother, was a small woman, 5 ft. 3 at her tallest. A picture of her taken when she was about seventeen years old, shows a very pretty young woman. She was strong for her size. She had auburn wavy hair and brown eyes. She was Scot-Irish on her father's side. Her mother's folks came from England. As a young adult, Mama belonged to the Rebecca Lodge. Her folks were members of the Baptist Church. After she married Dad, she joined the Methodist Church.
Mama was outgoing and talkative. She made friends easily. Everyone liked her. Her name was Eduth Lavada, but her family always called her "Dade." After she married Dad, my youngest half-brother, Theodore was only two years old at that time. He called Mama "Bady." The other children called her Vady. She usually signed her name "Vady."
