Searles Johnson, 99, of Japton, Ark., died Oct. 14, 1992, at the Fayetteville City Hospital. He was born Sept. 6, 1893, at Drakes Creek, the son of Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Elizabeth Oliver Johnson. He was a former school teacher and had retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 46 years as a rural mail carrier. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mandy Rogers Johnson, on Aug. 5, 1978. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Johnson and Wade Johnson, and by one sister, Mrs. Ruth Jackson.
Survivors include one brother, Alex O. Johnson of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Hudspeth and Mrs. Mary Mix, both of Fayetteville; and several nephews and nieces.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Jack Harriman, minister, officiating. Interment was in the Grose Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Bill Rogers, Art Callico, Eddie Bradford, Dwight Mix, Charles Johnson and Arlis Hoskins. Tommy Hoskins was an honorary pallbearer.
