Loyd Sparks
LOCUST GROVE - Loyd Arold "Sparky" Sparks, 82, of Locust Grove died Saturday, March 19, 2011, in a Batesville hospital.
Born Oct. 29, 1928, in the Upper Buffalo area, he was the son of Doy Richard and Bertha Mae Friend Sparks. He served in the Korean War in the early 1950s and retired from the Arkansas State Forestry Service in January 1990. He enjoyed his small herd of Hereford cattle, hard work and storytelling.
Survivors include his wife, Erma Sparks; two sons, Richard Sparks and Dloyd Sparks, both of Locust Grove; five grandchildren, Tori Sparks, Anna Sparks, Ryan Sparks, Ethan Sparks and Dalton Sparks, all of Locust Grove; three brothers, Wesley Sparks of Compton, James Sparks of Fayetteville and Clyde Sparks of Fallsville; two sisters, Orphea Wyatt of Berryville and Dorothy Samuels of Fayetteville; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Troy Sparks; and a grandson, Jerod Loyd Sparks.
The funeral will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Concord First Baptist Church in Concord with John Wofford officiating. Local arrangements are by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.
A second funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Boxley Baptist Church in Boxley. Burial will be in Plumlee Cemetery in Compton. Arrangements are by Holt Memorial Chapel of Harrison.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Sparks, Ethan Sparks, Wesley Allen Sparks, Matthew Sparks, Brent Edgemon, Kenny Woods and James Carl Sparks.
No visitation is planned.
