Wallace "Wally" Shepherd, 94, of Beloit, WI, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 in his home.
He was born July 24, 1918 in Bidville, Arkansas, the first born child of 17 children. He was the son of James Elisha (Eli) and Bertha Emiline (Wood) Shepherd. Wally attended school in Arkansas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Wally married Ann A. Cassata on June 29, 1940 in Beloit, WI. She predeceased him on October 12, 2003.
Wally started his working career building silos with his uncle. He then went to work for Technicraft, Town & Country Builders, Rock River Lumber and retired from Taylor Freezer in 1984. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #191 and the Beloit Eagles Club Aerie#557. Wallace loved dancing, clogging, playing the fiddle and as a hobby he enjoyed fixing violins. He was a master carpenter and built homes that his family lived in.
Survivors include his children, Donald (Sharon) Shepherd and Sandra (Frank) Parker Jr. all of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, Tommy (Rachel) Ames of Chicago, IL, Keri (Gary) Wisnieski of Norfolk, NE, Jamie (Amie) Shepherd of Lexington, KY, Brent (Suzanne) Shepherd of Key County Beach, FL, Lance (Rachel) Shepherd of Beloit, WI, Chad Parker of Janesville, WI, and Julia (Zach) Raymond of Janesville, WI; great grandchildren, Zachary, Michaela, Regan, Nolan, Allison, Parker, Cassandra, Brody, Connor, Aria and Harrison; brother, John (Betty) Shepherd of Beloit, WI; sister, Roberta (Clyde) Bunton of Russellville, AR; sisters-in-law, Betty Shepherd of Shopiere, WI, and Arlene Shepherd of Port Charlotte, FL; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Beloit Regional Hospice especially the "Sarah Team," and Nancy the Chaplain for the comfort, love and support they provided not only to dad but us too. To the family at Village East Apartments, Ruth and Gary, "You loved our dad so much and he loved each and every on of you." We will be forever grateful.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2012 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service Sunday in the funeral home.
