Springtown, Benton County, Arkansas
WASSON, W.D. - W.D. Wasson died Friday night at his home in
Springtown of pneumonia. Afew days ago while doing some painting at his
home he fell from a ladder, breaking two ribs, and would doubtless have
recovered from these injuries had not pneumonia set in. Funeral services
were held Sunday at noon, being conducted by Rev. F.S.H. Johnson of Fort
Smith and Rev. Wm. Sherman of Bentonville. The burial services were
under the auspices of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. fraternities. The funeral
was one of the most largely attended of any ever held in this section. Those
from Springdale who attended were Mr. and Mrs. I.T. Lane, W.T. Farrar,
B.S. Beach, H.J. Atkinson, M.F. Croxdale and Elmer Harris of Hindsville.
Deceased was born in 1850 and was a son of the late Uncle Abner Wasson,
who resided a few miles west of Springdale. His wife, by whom he is survived,
is a daughter of the late Dr. M.D. Steele of Elm Springs. Deceased is
also survived by four sons and three daughters, one of the latter being
Miss Iva, who formerly taught school in Springdale. There are numerous
other surviving relatives, John Wasson of Elm Springs, being a brother of
the deceased. Mr. Wasson had resided at Springtown for thirty-one years
past and was an upright man, honest and energetic, and will be greatly
missed by the people among whom he lived. [The Springdale News 7/12/1907]
