Prairie Grove, Washington County, Arkansas
PITTMAN, William C. - It is deep regret that we announce the death of
William Pittman, son of Capt. S.P. Pittman, which sad event occurred in
this city on Monday evening last after weeks of suffering with that terrible
disease, typhoid fever. The deceased was just entering manhood, an intel-
ligent and promising young man and his death is a serious loss. Capt.
Pittman, wife and little daughter have the sympathy of the entire community
their sad affliction. [Fayetteville Democrat 7/21/77]
Died at Fayetteville, Washington county, Arkansas on July 16th, 1877 of
Typhoid fever, William C. Pittman, nineteen years of age, only son of our
most estimable friends, Capt. S.P. Pittman and Sarah D. Boone Pittman. A
few months ago Mr. Pittman moved his family to Fayetteville in order to
educate his two children, little dreaming that one of them would be taken
from him so soon; and little did that loving mother think, when she left the
dear old home near Prairie Grove, with heart overflowing with joy and
anticipations of a bright future for her promising son and daughter, that in
a few short weeks she would see her darling Willie prostrate with sickness
and sufferings and that after days of weary watching and suspense, she
would be called upon to give him up. Mrs. Garrison, Prairie Grove, July
25th, 1877. Sentinel please copy. [Fayetteville Democrat 8/4/77]
