Menifee Nichols "Red" Swisher
87 a resident of Farmington, went to be with his Lord on January 7, 2012 in Fayetteville. He was born June 17, 1924 in Utica, Kansas, the son of John Wesley and Bessie Cleo Nichols Swisher.
Red attended the Utica, KS school system where he graduated as Valedictorian in 1942. He worked in the shipyards in Tacoma, WA, before enlisting in the U.S. Army during World War II for three years. He served in the ETO for two years, including the Battle of the Bulge, where he received the Silver Service Star and Good Conduct Medal as a Medic. Following his service discharge, he was a 30 year employee of Oil Well Division of U.S. Steel Corporation, as clerk and store manager in Cut Bank, Mt, Worland, WY, Farmington, NM, Casper, WY, and Ventura, CA. Upon retiring to Farmington, AR in 1976, Red was employed as part-time truck driver and shipping clerk for 13 years, by the Ozark Mountain Smoke House. He was a member of the Prairie Grove Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Margery, three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Wolf and her husband Kenneth of Fayetteville and Kathy S. Jones of Gray, Tennessee; one son, John R. Swisher of Grady, Arkansas; nine grandchildren, Sean Wolf, Kristin Wolf Green, Erin Wolf Adkins, Megan Wolf Dinkel, Justin Wolf, Jordan Wolf, Graham Jones, Aubrey Jones Harper, and Moriah Jones; three great granddaughters, Emma Jones, Olivia Jones and Emilia Harper; two great grandsons, Lennon Adkins and William Jones.
Family will receive friends on Monday from 6:00-7:00 P.M. at Luginbuel Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 17, 2012 - 10:00 A.M. at Prairie Grove Christian Church in Prairie Grove, with burial in National Cemetery in Fayetteville.
