Johnson, Washington Co, AR
(From letter of 6/6/1995 from Jeanne Harden to Theda (Cawthon) Ezell)
[Delta] also reminisced about several of her papa's farms. Some she had heard of and others she visually remembers. She said the original homestead was in Salem, Dent Co., MO, where the older children were born. Then in Missouri she remembers hearing about:
(1) Old Lease Farm
remembers living at:
(2) Johnson Switch [now Johnson, near Springdale, AR]
(3) Valley Side Farm in Springdale Twp.
(4) Spring Valley Farm -- they only lived there for one year. Her father lost the farm. She remembers the big (apple) fruit orchard. The children had to crawl on their bellies under the overgrown orchard to cut the brush and prune. She remembers a special "room or house" to dry and peel apples.
(5) Moved to Siloam Springs. John Martin Cawthon had to trade in an insurance policy to buy the farm. Things were not going well. Leo Cawthon, his son (was in the War), had an income he sent home to help the family. He helped his dad support the farm, and John Martin made sure he (Leo) got the farm.
