Velma Irene Carlton
(August 18, 1933 - July 31, 2010)
Our beloved mother, Velma Irene Carlton, departed this life on July 31, 2010. She was born August 18, 1933, in Depew, Oklahoma to Jessie Franklin Mordecai and Anna Pauline (Watkins) Mordecai.
On May 30, 1953, Velma was married to Richard Carlton in Stilwell, Oklahoma where they made their home. She was a Christian, homemaker and mother. Velma and Richard were foster parents for many years. She also worked with the Foster Grandparent program and retired from Stilwell Public School after 16 years of work with various handicapped children.
Velma adored her grandchildren and they were the light of her life. She enjoyed the outdoors and taking care of her cattle. She was a member of Ewing Chapel Free Holiness Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard M. Carlton, on July 16, 2006, her youngest son, Brian Leonard Carlton, her mother and father, Jessie Franklin and Anna Pauline Mordecai, one brother, Vernon Mordecai and one grandson, Anthony Ray Carlton.
She is survived by three children, Betty Ann Reynolds, Richard Ray Carlton and his wife, LaRita Carlton and Jackie Wayne Carlton and his wife, Karen Carlton; two sisters, Rosie Ruben and Vera Johnson; four grandchildren, Nancy Ann Reynolds, William Clark Reynolds and his wife, Ericka Reynolds, Terri Denise Carlton, and Jessie Wayne Carlton and two great grandchildren, Lance Blake Reynolds and Ashlynn Ann Reynolds.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Hart Memorial Chapel with Bro. Audie Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow at Bethesda Cemetery under the direction of Hart Funeral Home.
