Mary Julia (Judy) West, age 92, of Prairie Grove, passed away March 24, 2018, at her home on the West Farm hilltop. She was born March 25, 1925, in Morrow, Arkansas, the daughter of Samuel and Eva Lena Knifley Cole. Judy attended school in Morrow before later attending and graduating from Cane Hill High School. She attended St. Mary’s Nursing School and worked as a registered nurse upon her graduation.
Judy married Frank Elton West on August 30, 1947. Frank and Judy had four children, Danny, Gary, Donna and Randy.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank West, son Gary West, and brothers Otho Cole and Sam Cole, Jr.
She is survived by three children, son Randy and wife Cheryl West of Prairie Grove, son Danny and wife Carolyn West of Baxter Springs, Kansas, and daughter Donna and husband Mike Bond of Prairie Grove; 10 grandchildren, Don West, Jacqueline Meirink, Adam West, Daniel Bond, Carrie Bond, Natalie West Bartholomew, Lindsay West Kennedy, Cathy Edens, Heather Swain, and Angela Gross; 15 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Judy enjoyed living on the hilltop that overlooked the West Farm and Prairie Grove. She dearly loved having her grandchildren visit, and she enjoyed spending time fishing at the farm pond. In the 1980s, Frank and Judy embarked on numerous bus tours across North America, visiting Mexico, Canada and Alaska with their traveling companions, George and Mary Lou West. In her later days, she lived a simple life and enjoyed watching the birds and occasional deer that would wander by her house on the hill.
The family would like to thank Phyllis Adams, Barbara Porter and Peggy Estep for their more than four years of loving care for Judy.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018, at the West Farm in Prairie Grove. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. There will be no graveside service.
