Funeral services for Ewell Van Earl, 70, of Tahlequah, are Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m., in the Green Country Funeral Home Chapel. Pallbearers are B.J. McKay, Buddy Cockrum, Tyler Cockrum, Adam Holt, James Canfield and Robert Norton. Interment will be at 86 Cemetery in Strickler, Ark., under the care of Green Country Funeral Home. Ewell was born March 7, 1941, in Prarie Grove, Ark., to Bearl E. and Mary Ann (Peterson) Earl. He passed on to a better place Jan. 29, 2012, from Tahlequah. Growing up, his father worked at coal mines and he lived in many towns in the north where he attended school. He was a graduate of Clinton (Mo.) High School. He moved to Tahlequah in 1976. On Dec. 13, 1986, Ewell married Alice Lee McKay. Ewell, was a Tahlequah business man. He owned Airport Grocery in the 1980s and Pettit Bay Cabins and Grocery from 1997-2005. Ewell has been preceded in death by his parents. He leaves behind his wife, Alice of the home; children, Kathern June Norton and husband Robert of Louisiana, Dorian Scott Earl of North Dakota, Billie Sue Canfield and husband James of Tahlequah, and Curtis Lee McKay and wife Rhonda of Tahlequah; uncle, Clifford Earl; aunts, Maxine Knoll of Broken Arrow and Maybel Secrist of Coweta; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several cousins, other relatives, friends and loved ones.
