Clara Belle West Reed, of Farmington, AR, peacefully departed this life for glory on Friday, January 3, 2014, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her devoted husband, of 63 years, Felix Herman Reed.
Clara was born in Sudan, TX, November 2,1933, and raised in Lincoln, Arkansas. She was the second born to Dudley Raymond and Vera Elizabeth West. Her older sister was Sybil Howard (deceased); her younger brother was Raymond West, deceased (Brenda). Clara graduated from Lincoln High School in1950. Herman was the light of her life and they were married on December 24,1950, in Lincoln, AR. After marrying they moved to Southern California where they raised their three children before retiring and returning to northwest Arkansas.
Clara was mother to Douglas Herman Reed of the home, Janice Clara Reed Gebauer and her husband Albert and Cheryl Ann Reed Headrick and her husband Bob both currently living in Farmington, AR. She had six grandchildren: Andrew Wayne Gebauer and his wife Olga of Prairie Grove, AR, Cheri Ann Gebauer Anderson and her husband Eric of Worland, WY, Claire Beth Gebauer Martinez and her husband Seth of Worland, WY, Robert Owen Headrick and his wife Cheri of Siloam Springs, AR, Sarah Jean Headrick Campbell and her husband Lukas of Houston, TX, and David Alan Headrick of Farmington, AR; ten great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Annette, Alex, and Katelyn Gebauer of Prairie Grove, AR, Peter, James, Bonnie and Marcus Anderson of Worland, WY, and Aspen and Gemma Martinez of Worland, WY.
Clara trusted the Lord as her Savior and served Him all of her life. She witnessed to the lost and prayed daily for family and friends. She was instrumental in beginning a special education Sunday School Class, opened her home for Good News Clubs and Bible studies, directed a bus ministry and led children's church when they lived in California. After Herman retired they returned to northwest Arkansas where Clara taught children's Sunday School, and supported Herman as they taught adult Sunday School classes in Siloam Springs and Fayetteville. They traveled as volunteer missionaries with the International Mission Board (IMB) to Yemen, Africa, Germany and Brazil to spread the gospel and support the local missionaries. She was always active in a local church, making FBC Prairie Grove her home church the past few years. Clara was loved dearly by all who knew her and especially by her family.
The family would like to thank the fellowship of First Baptist Church of Prairie Grove, Caring Friends Respite Care Ministry, Flippo's Senior Center Day Care, WRMC Hospice, Isabel Holliman, Amanda Doyle and many lifelong friends for their support and kindness.
Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon January 5 from 2-4pm at Luginbuel Funeral Home 115 N Neal St Prairie Grove, AR.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Prairie Grove, Arkansas 219 N Pittman St on Monday, January 6, at 10am, with Albert Gebauer officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery near Morrow, Arkansas, there will be no graveside services held at the cemetery.
