Tennessee
Martin Luther Boyd was born on April 7, 1832, in Tennessee, his father, Jeremiah, was from Virginia and his mother, Susannah Keicher, was from North Carolina and of German descent. Being the 9th child born to this family, his parents were in their 40's at the time of his birth. Martin may have been named for Martin Luther (1483-1546), a German professor of theology, composer, priest, monk and a seminal figure in the Protestant Reformation.
In 1850, 18-year-old Martin was living with his parents, a brother, sister & cousin in Monroe County, Tennessee. Six years later, he married Martha Elizabeth Pierce on March 5, 1856, in Meigs County, Tennessee. Their first child, James Nathaniel Boyd, was born less than a year later. In 1860, Martin, Martha and their 2 children: James & Stephen, relocated to Jefferson County, Illinois. Martha's family resided nearby. By 1875, the family had relocated to Anderson, Benton County, Arkansas.
Martin died on July 27, 1894, in Benton County, Arkansas, at the age of 62, and was buried in Centerton Cemetery.
