White County, Tennessee
MOORE, Isabella BRYAN - It is with sad and sorrowing heart we pen
these lines: Isabella Bryan, daughter of Maj. William and Jane Bryan of
White county, Tennessee, was born October 25th, 1816; married to W.W.
Moore May 5th, 1835; died at Eureka Springs, Carroll county, Arkansas
May 5th, 1880 at 5 minutes past 12 o’clock a.m., having lived with her
husband 45 years to a day. She joined the Methodist Episcopal Church,
South at Sparta, Tennessee in 1840; was a dutiful and loving wife and a
doting mother, having raised ten children to be men and women, four sons
and six daughters, nine of whom are now living. She also leaves a brother
and four sisters - Elias W. Bryan, Esq. of Murphysboro, Ills., Mrs. Mary
Denny of Carroll county, Arkansas; Mrs. Susan Love of De Kalb county,
Tennessee; Mrs. Jane Austin and Mrs. Manerva White of White county,
Tennessee. The deceased was the mother of the editors of this paper. Two
weeks ago Thursday last she left here, apparently in good health, to accompany
a daughter, Mrs. Rem. R. Smith, to her new home, Eureka Springs.
On the Thursday following she was taken ill but was not considered dangerous
until 12 o’clock Tuesday when she began to sink rapidly and breathed
her last at 12:05 that night. She died of inflammation of the bowels. Husband
and only four children were permitted to attend her last wants and
smooth her dying pillow. Grief-stricken, absent ones, let us bow in humble
submission to the will of God. The remains arrived here at 2 o’clock Thursday
morning and were interred in Evergreen Cemetery at 11 o’clock in the
presence of many sorrowing friends of the family, The funeral sermon will
be preached to-morrow morning {Sunday) at the Methodist church by Rev.
F.A. Jeffelt. [Fayetteville Democrat 5/8/80]
Myself and children return our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Jennie Jackson,
Mrs. M.E. Nixon, Mrs. Jas. Isaac, Mrs. Frank Wilhoit and Messrs. Chas.
Smith, Ulysses Jackson, W.F. Willis, Col. A.B. Newsom, David Cloar, Burtis
Rudolph and others for the great kindness bestowed upon us in our recent
sad affliction at Eureka Springs. They will ever have a fresh place in our
memory. W.W. Moore. May 8, 1800. [Fayetteville Democrat 5/8/80]
The funeral of the late Mrs. W.W. Moore was not preached last Sunday on
account of the illness of members of the family. The sermon will be preached
in the near future, due notice of which will be given. [Fayetteville Democrat
