Jerry attended Prairie Grove School as a young man, and was in several activities while attending. Playing football for Prairie Grove High School was one of the greatest memories as a young man. A very short time after graduating high school Jerry was enlisted in the US Army in 1968, and the Vietnam War was taking place at this time. He was sent to Vietnam to serve his country in 1969, he returned to the United States from Vietnam in winter of 1970, and was honorably discharged from the US Army in July of 1971.

Jerry was a very experienced outdoorsman hunting whitetail, mule deer, elk, moose, and antelope. He was a proud sponsor of the NRA and enjoyed all types of guns. Quail and Pheasant hunting were his favorite type of hunting, and kept some of the finest trained bird dogs for the sport. He also was a bull rider with the IPRA where he rode in the rodeo circuit with several famous people that are in the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame today. Jerry raised dairy cattle, and was named #1 Grade A dairy farm in the state of Arkansas for ten years in a row, and milking three times a day for two of those years, and producing more milk with 60 head of cattle than most could produce with 120 head of dairy cows. He installed the first computer feed system in the state of Arkansas and was named the #1 dairy farmer by Purina Feeds, and raised turkeys for Cargill while doing all that. As a retired Vietnam Veteran racing horses was another great hobby, where he trained quarter horses that broke track records in Sallisaw, Oklahoma City, OK and Kansas City, KS. Jerry had many wonderful friends throughout his life that cared for him deeply, and he cherished every moment that he had with all of them.
