Opal Marguerite McGhee Reed passed away Sunday, October 22, 2017 in Siloam Springs, Ark. She was born September 4, 1929 in Birta, Ark. to parents, James Alton Gaydon and Letta B. McCoy Gaydon.
Marguerite married George McGhee on September 22, 1946. They had three children - Ronnie, Kay and Rusty. George passed away in 1973. Marguerite married Albert Reed in 1996 and they spent 20 years together until Albert's passing in October 2015 Marguerite was a follower of Jesus Christ and served him in many ways throughout her life, always wanting to care for those in need. She was one of the first female employees of Franklin Electric in 1964 and worked there until her retirement in 1995. One of her proudest accomplishments was finishing her high school education in 1967, and the college education of her three children. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs since 1955, and faithfully served in numerous roles, especially in the children's area for many years. She was a wonderful cook and would rather feed 40 than two.
Marguerite was predeceased by her parents, one brother, James W. Gaydon, husband, George; husband, Albert and grandson, Cody Reed. She leaves behind her children, Ronnie and wife, Paula, Kay Steele and husband, Darryl, Rusty and wife, Fran, step children, Lee Reed and wife, Karen, Jeannie Taylor and husband, Odell and Anne Chambliss. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Matt McGhee, Adam McGhee (Jill), Jamie Moody (Josh), Jeffery Steele (Carrie), Tyler McGhee (Amber), Gillian McGhee, Melody Reed, Andy Felts, Brad Felts, Brett Chambliss and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with family and friends will be Wednesday, October 25th at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark. from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 26th at First Baptist Church, Siloam Springs, Ark. and interment will be 4 p.m. at Birta Cemetery, Birta, Ark.
