Prairie Grove, Washington County, Arkansas
MARRS, Alta - Afew months ago we chronicled the death of J.D. Marrs.
Two weeks ago we laid his little daughter beside him in the grave. A bright,
beautiful child, too pure for this world. God in his mercy hath taken his
jewel home. Little Alta never ceased to grieve for her papa and just as she
was dying she held up her little hand and looked upward. It seemed as if
He had come to take his darling home. She was a remarkable child for one
of her age. Her childish prattle and winsome ways won the hearts of all
who knew her, especially dear was she to the hearts of her grand-ma and
grand-pa who only had her with them a short time. Sadly will they miss
the sunbeam that is gone from their home. Her stay with us was brief but
her mission is accomplished, without a struggle, groan or even a hard breath,
quietly she fell asleep in Jesus. A Friend. Prairie Grove, Ark., May 7th,
1880. [Fayetteville Democrat 6/12/1880]
