Prairie Grove, Washington County, Arkansas
WEST, Minnie - Prairie Grove, July 23.- Miss Minnie West of
Wedington, almost twelve miles west of Prairie Grove, committed suicide
by shooting herself through the heart with a 32-caliber pistol. She was the
daughter of Will West who died and was buried here about one year ago.
She was a young lady of accomplishments and had a good home and seemed
to enjoy good health. She borrowed a 32 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver
from some member of the Harris family, near neighbors, and reported that
another neighbor, Dr. Wilson, wanted it. Some suspicion was felt and she
was followed. She went as close to the residence of Mr. Harris as she could,
on a small creek, having reached it in a circuitous route, and near the edge
of the water soon afterward her body was found and by the side lay the
pistol which she had a short time before borrowed. The affair casts a gloom
over friends and acquaintances as no excuse or reason can be suggested for
the rash act. Funeral services were conducted here by Rev. Dyer of
Fayetteville. [The Springdale News 8/3/1906]
