Cove Creek Community, Washington County, Prairie Grove, Arkansas
Fern P. Abshier, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 after living a long and fruitful life. She was born on January 18, 1921 to Harrison and Agnes Rose Pierce.
She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years John Arlen Abshier, one brother Jimmy Pierce of Gastonia, North Carolina, three brothers in law Marvin Foster of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Orvil Abshier fo Carthage, Missouri, and Hugh Guess of Farmington, Arkansas.
She is survived by her son John Darrel Abshier and wife Kim of St. Robert, Missouri,
one grandson Eddie and wife Tabatha of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, one sister Mary Helen Foster of Fayetteville, Arkansas, two nieces Diane Murray and husband Kevin of Farmington, Arkansas, and Gina Bailey and husband Marion of Farmington, Arkansas, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She was born and raised on a farm on Cove Creek, Arkansas. She attended Garrett Creek School and later received a teaching Certificate and taught school at Garrett Creek. She fell in love with and married John Abshier shortly after World War II. She liked to work, her first job was with the Kelly Canning Company on Cove Creek at age sixteen. Her, John and Darrel moved to Lincoln in the Mid 50's. She worked at numerous jobs including supervisor of the Lincoln School Lunch program, head of the finish department at Baldwin Piano Company, and at Baldor Electric. She worked at Tittle’s IGA, Yorks and Basham Grocery stores in Lincoln. She also worked at Tyson Foods Company and her final job was with Harps Grocery. She also sold Avon for many years. She worked late in her 70's but health prevented her from working longer.
In addition to working a regular job she also made a wonderful home for John and Darrel, after work she would come home and work in the garden. Family and friends benefitted from the bounty of her labor.
She made friends easy and was always concerned about how everyone was doing.
She was loved dearly and will be missed by family and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, October 31, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove the family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. prior to service. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Murray, Marion Bailey, Rodney Bailey, Cody Keen, Justin White, and Eric Newman.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Pierson Keen, Brooks Bailey, and Collins White.
Flower Girls will be Whitney Newman and Esley Keen.
