Notes

Matthew James Bartholomew, age 51, of Lamar, Missouri passed away February 2, 2023.

Matthew was born April 15, 1971 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to James Ray Bartholomew and Palma Debra (Oliver) Bartholomew. On June 22, 1996, Matthew married Gwendolyn "Wendy" Rachel Wegener in Lamar, MO.

Matthew was an insurance sales representative. He loved spending time with his family on their farm in Hogeye, Arkansas. He enjoyed hunting, taking the kids out on the "razor," and shooting snakes by the creek. He was an avid toy collector, and loved cars, motorcycles, and guns. Matthew loved being with his family and friends, even if it was just talking to them on the phone bragging about his children, whether it was embarrassing or not, telling stories, or reminiscing.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen; two sons, Hayden James Bartholomew of Kansas City, Missouri and Mason Emery Bartholomew of Lamar; two daughters, Brittany Nicole Ashbacher and husband Aaron of Frontenac, Kansas and Eliana Karen Bartholomew of Lamar; his parents, Jim and Debra Bartholomew of Prairie Grove, Arkansas; his brother, Chris Bartholomew and his wife Gina of Springdale, AR; mother-in-law, Karen Wegener of Lamar; and three grandchildren who lovingly referred to Matthew as "Happy", SkyLar Nicole Ashbacher (8), Xavier Patrick Ashbacher (7) and Emerson Zoe "Pea Pot" Ashbacher (5), as well many other family and friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Maudleen Bartholomew and Bill and Palma Oliver; his uncle, David Bartholomew; cousins, Doug Lossing and Kara McConnell and father-in-law, Ron Wegener.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, February 10, 2023 at Lamar United Methodist Church in Lamar, MO. Burial will be Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Lake Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Friday, February 10, 2023 prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested and made payable to the "Bartholomew Education Fund" established for his children's education, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
