L. Quentin Skelton, 94, of Springdale died Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.

He was born on January 13, 1921, in Black Oak near Winslow, Arkansas to Henry Eli and Priscilla Fay Anderson Skelton.

Mr. Skelton married Alice Marie Wilson of Hazel Valley on April 17, 1943. He joined the United States Army in December of 1942. He served in World War II in the 43rd Tank Battalion of the 12th Armored Division in Europe and hauled ammunition and fuel to the front lines and prisoners back to the supply line. Mr. Skelton and his brothers established Skelton Brothers, Inc. in June of 1951 and hauled Grade A milk from farm to market in tank trailers. In 1956, they established Skelton Motor Company. He also operated G&H Bandag Company, Inc., Jeanway Industries, Inc., and S&H Parts & Equipment. Skelton Brothers Inc. also manufactured and delivered Boston Mountain Ice within a 100-mile radius of Springdale. In 1987, Mr. Skelton and his sons established Skelton Reload.

Mr. Skelton was preceded in death by his brothers Donald Skelton, Keith Skelton, Arthur Skelton and Lawrence Skelton, and three sisters, Delia Stephens, Blanch Wolfenbarger and Louise Gillespie.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marie Skelton; two sons, James D. and Mary Ann Skelton and Ronnie and Linda Skelton, both of Springdale; two daughters, Jacque and Norman Long and Shirley and Rick Jackson, both of Edmond, OK; one sister, Rose Wagner of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two brothers, Pierson Skelton of Dutch Mills, AR and Dwain Skelton of Easton, Kansas. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and spouses and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 5 at First United Methodist Church in Springdale followed by burial at Black Oak Cemetery, under the direction of Moore’s Chapel. Pallbearers will be his six grandsons.
