Notes

LANGSTON, Ellen PARKS -After being confined to her bed only about

five days Mrs. Ellen Langston, wife of J.M. Langston, died Monday morning

at 2:30 o’clock at the Sanitarium to which place she had been removed

Sunday evening for the purpose of having an operation performed. She

had been in ill health for some four years past but the immediate cause of

her death was the obstruction of the bowels, the operation failing to give

the necessary relief. Funeral services were held at the family residence

Wednesday morning at ten o’clock, conducted by Rev. L.S. Ballard, pastor

of the First Baptist Church, and the remains were interred in Bluff Cemetery.

Ellen Parks was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Parks and was

born in January 1858 near Billingsley, Washington County. Her mother

was a Billingsley and her grandparents were among the early settlers of

the county. At West Fork January 25,1885 she was united in marriage t o

J.M. Langston and after residing at that place for a number of years the

family came to Springdale about ten years ago, which has since been their

home. While a resident of West Fork in 1885 deceased united with the

Baptist Church and on moving to Springdale she united with the church

here. She took an active interest in church and Sunday School work and

was one of the teachers in the Sunday School. She was also an active member

of the W.C.T.U. and manifested a lively interest in the work of that

organization. Besides a husband deceased is survived by four children,

three sons and one daughter: Argile, Raymond, Day and Miss Joye. She is

also survived by a sister, Mrs. G.S. White of Vinita, Ok., and two brothers,

Addie and J.H. Parks, both of whom reside in South Dakota. Mrs. Langston

was loved and esteemed by all who knew her. In a quiet and unobtrusive

way she went about doing what good she could and was ever ready to lend

her assistance to any worthy cause, as a result of which her life was not in

vain. The sorrowing family has the sympathy of the entire community in

their bereavement. [The Springdale News 1/14/1910]
