CARNEY, George W. – Mr. George Carney, one of the oldest citizens of the Moffitt neighborhood, died at his home at that place about noon Tuesday, June 13th. Mr. Carney had been a sufferer from heart trouble and had been confined to his bed for nearly two years.
Mr. Carney was born in the same neighborhood in which he died, September 10, 1843. On February 25th, 1877, he was married to Miss Martha Cedonia Barron, who died about four years ago. To this union were born five children, all of whom survive their father, except one daughter, Mrs. James Brunk, who died at Tipton, Oklahoma. The surviving children are James and Claud of Moffitt, and Mrs. George Hannah and Mrs. Milburn Shanks of Tipton, Oklahoma.
The funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon conducted by the Rev. Grover C. Bidwell of Prairie Grove. The Odd Fellow’s Lodge of Moffitt, of which the deceased was a member, had charge of the services at the grave and conducted their burial rites. [Prairie Grove Herald 6/15/1922]
