Claremore, Oklahoma
John Robin Stand, age 61, of Evansville, Arkansas, peacefully passed away on October 11, 2017 at his home as he was surrounded by family and loved ones. He was proud to be saved prior to his passing and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
John was born on December 5, 1955, in Claremore, Oklahoma as the son of Lucille and George Stand. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974 and developed a deep love and passion for dirt track racing at a very young age. Though he won many races including everything from features, heats, and trophy dashes, he considered raising his daughter, Misty, as one of his greatest accomplishments in life. John was considered by the dirt track racing community to be a legend, encompassing the capability to set up a car by instinct. On Valentine's Day in 2009 he married the love of his life, Susan, and was blessed for many years with her love, care, bonus children, and mutual love for racing. As a beloved grandfather, John had a deep love for his grandchildren which was like no other and he enjoyed spending as much time with them as possible. He adored many activities with them including attending ballgames, feeding the ducks, and eating together on Sundays. He worked for Whirlpool Corporation in Ft. Smith, Arkansas for 35 years. Words cannot express the void in the hearts of his family, loved ones and friends; however, we should all be comforted by knowing he is looking down upon us all every day and he will never miss another race with the best seat in the house.
John is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille (Pershall) Stand.
John is survived by his wife, Susan Stand of the home; Misty Metcalf and her husband Jeff Metcalf, of Siloam Springs, AR; five bonus children: Wade Woodrum, Jimmie Burger, Aaron Burger, Andrea Rennie and Brandie Russell; four grandchildren: Yeley Metcalf, Racin Metcalf, Faith Woodrum and Lorelei Burger.
