Going Snake, Adair County, Oklahoma
Collins "Col" was born May 18, 1883 at Piney, Goingsnake District, Cherokee Nation West. Son of John Moreland and Sarah Jane McDonald Moreland. Col was registered by the Dawes Commission as 1/8 Cherokee blood. He received a land allotment near the Piney community. He met and married in 1905, Elnora Woods Moreland, who was born July 17, 1883 in Clyde, Arkansas, the oldest child of John Wesley Woods and Loretta (Lola) Ann Simpson. The family moved to the Goingsnake District about 1895.
Col and Elnora Moreland were the parents of nine children. The six oldest children were born at Piney, Oklahoma, on their father's Indian allotment land. The original house still stands. Col and Elnora Moreland lived their lives in Adair County and are both buried in the Stillwell City Cemetery.
