Prairie Grove, Washington County, Arkansas
Gary Dale Carte
Came into this world on March 4, 1946 and departed it on February 6, 2025 - he was 78 years old. Gary was the son of ‘Ray’ Fredrick Carte and Cellia ‘Christine’ Pridemore Carte. He was married to the love of his life for almost 58 years - he and Mary ‘Frances’ Stewart were wed on February 25, 1967, only to be separated by death.
Gary was a life long resident of Lincoln, Arkansas. He was an active man. He seemed to make friends everywhere he went. When he was a young man, his family was one of the founding families in the Lincoln Riding Club. After he left school, he enlisted in the National Guard to do his duty for his country - when asked what his job was in the Guard, he always said he peeled potatoes, a lot of potatoes! Gary dedicated a good many years to protecting his community by serving on the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department until he retired. He also served his community through the Masonic Lodge where he was a 32nd degree Mason, and he and Frances were active in the Lincoln Chapter of the Eastern Star. He was a hard working fella, he built and worked on the state highways for over 25 years, before retiring from the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. He said there was too many chores to do at home, so he went to work for the Washington County Road Dept for many years until he retired from there too.
Gary always had a project to work on. He was either in the hayfield or working with his cattle and if you couldn’t find him there, you could find him in the shop tinkering on something that needed fixin’. He loved his antique tractors. He was very active in the Rustic Relic and the Green Country Antique Tractor Clubs - he was on the go with a trailer full of tractors every weekend.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Christine Carte, his brother Don Carte and his brother John Carte.
Gary was survived by his beautiful wife Frances Carte of Lincoln Arkansas, his son Tim Carte of Van Buren Arkansas, his daughter Zana Carte Kelly of Prairie Grove Arkansas and his grandson Noah West of Fayetteville Arkansas. His three sisters: Eva Sue Watson of Claremore Oklahoma, Raylene Newell of Farmington Arkansas and Judy Kay Skaggs of Langley Oklahoma.
Gary Carte was a good man, a loving father, friend to many and always willing to lend a hand. He will be missed.
I do you too, Daddy.
